ADRA Op Shops Open in Laurieton and Coonabarabran
20th of October, 2006
The Laurieton ADRA Op Shop (near Port Macquarie, NSW) and the Coonabarabran ADRA Op Shop (north of Dubbo, NSW) have opened in recent months with good support from their local communities.
The Coonabarabran op-shop has also been supported by ADRA Op Shops in Cooranbong, Cessnock and Ballina, which donated materials and goods to help it get established. It was also fitted out with materials from the Landsborough, Qld, ADRA Op Shop, which closed after 18 successful months when the leased property was no longer available.
ADRA op-shops inject their profits back into the local community, supporting programs such as women's refuges, support for disadvantaged youth and counselling centres. ADRA Op Shops rely heavily on volunteers, who are trained in customer service and occupational health and safety (OHS).
Currently, there are 26 ADRA Op Shops operating across Australia, which are supported by more than 400 volunteers who generously give time and resources for the successful operation of the op-shops.To find an ADRA Op Shop near you and ideas on how you can help, visit ADRA Op Shops.
