ADRA Launches Annual Door-knock Appeal
5th of July, 2006
The annual Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) door-knock appeal, which solicits funds for its community development projects in Australia and overseas, will commence on 24 July in Queensland and will continue to roll-out in other states, with the final launch in Tasmania on 4 November.
In the past year, ADRA's work around Australia has included plans for additional housing for a women's refuge in New South Wales, a school breakfast program in Queensland, settlement assistance for overseas refugees now living in South Australia, and activities for at-risk young people in Tasmania.
In addition to these projects, ADRA Appeal funds are used around Australia to support projects such as women's refuges, counselling centres, at-risk youth intervention and Indigenous community development.
ADRA Appeal donations also support a range of development projects in the South Pacific, Asia and Africa. ADRA's international projects focus on economic development, water and sanitation, HIV and AIDS education, food security, education and literacy.
We are proud to say that 100% of donations to the ADRA Appeal go directly to projects, explains Gary Christian, ADRA's National Program Director and coordinator for the ADRA Appeal. Australians who give to the ADRA Appeal can be sure that their gifts really will make a worthwhile difference to those in need.
ADRA Appeal collectors are all volunteers, giving of their time to help others. Every year, more than 6000 volunteers around Australia serve in their local communities to raise money for ADRA's work.
Donations can be made to the ADRA Appeal directly to authorised volunteer door-knock collectors or by donating online, calling 1800 242 372 or mailing to ADRA Appeal PO Box 129, Wahroonga NSW 2076.
ADRA Australia is one of the country's largest and most active humanitarian agencies engaging in sustainable development programs and disaster relief for people in Australia and abroad. The world-wide ADRA network has a presence in 125 countries.
