Emergency Management

Disaster Floods, famines, earthquakes, fires and wars wreak havoc on the lives of millions of people every year. Since ADRA Australia's inception, it has been relieving the suffering of people affected by disaster and conflict.

ADRA also works to mitigate the effects of a crisis by developing regional strategies for effective disaster response. Such preparedness plans incorporate thorough analysis of problems and plans for basic and necessary interventions. ADRA's emergency management and mitigation outlines available networks with other institutions, organisations and individuals to provide cooperative assistance.

ADRA Australia is committed to compassionate, effective and prompt disaster relief both within Australia and overseas.

What ADRA is doing…

Domestic Emergency Management

ADRA Australia assists individuals and communities in times of disaster through provision of emergency assistance packages. ADRA works in conjunction with State Government Community Services departments to provide essential financial support for those people not covered by government-provided disaster relief arrangements. Additionally, under formal agreements with State and Territory Governments, ADRA facilitates emergency accommodation of evacuees and those who work in the Disaster Management sector supporting the community.

Services 'on the ground' are provided by teams of trained and resourced volunteers who work in partnership with other agencies to provide a comprehensive range of services whenever disaster strikes.

In some states ADRA represents the emergency accommodation function in planning and emergency services forums, contributing to the development of quality outcomes for disaster affected persons.

International Emergency Management

As part of the ADRA global network response, ADRA Australia provides emergency assistance to victims of natural and man-caused disasters including refugees and internally displaced persons. Such assistance includes food distribution, water, shelter, clothing, and health-care. ADRA also works to transition its relief operations into long-term, sustainable development activities such as school and housing reconstruction.

How you can help?

During times of disaster many compassionate people express their willingness to offer time and skills to help those that are affected by tragedy. In order to utilise this valuable human resource and help ADRA to respond to disasters as they occur, ADRA Australia is offering skilled professionals an opportunity to register their interest ahead of time.

For more information about this opportunity read the Call for Registration of Interest. To register, download and submit the Application Form to ADRA Australia.
